David Mattson Jr. , a third-year medical student at Kapi'olani , says there's a technical aspect of the exam , but that there's also an emotional aspect. This really helped me out in that respect -- feeling more comfortable and confident and competent , Mattson says.
The medical students are often amazed that anyone would choose to do this work and are grateful that we do.At times I'm awed by the immediate impact we have on our students.I've seen them go from a state of nervous paralysis to calm empathy during a teaching session of less than two hours.Which is one of the reasons many of us have been with the program five years or more ( I'm going on my 11th year ) .
