Karla J. Matteson, medical biology associate professor at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, has been appointed the American Board of Medical Genetics' (ABMG) first executive director.
Her selection comes following a nine-month national search after the ABMG board of directors approved the creation of this position.
The half-time appointment was effective earlier this fall.
Matteson received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her genetics postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine.
Since 1986, she has been on the faculty at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and serves as director of the Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Laboratory.She is also assistant director of the Developmental and Genetic Center.
Lawn mowers, tractors recalled
WASHINGTON -- Two companies are recalling about 96,000 lawn mowers and garden tractors because of mechanical problems that could cause burns and other injuries.
Lawn-Boy Inc., of Bloomington, Minn., is recalling about 90,000 Lawn-Boy power mowers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.Stress cracks can develop in the mower's fuel tank and the company has received reports of 400 gasoline leaks and one fire.
