On Tuesday, Jean-Pierre Mattei, chairman of the Arco group of bondholders backed by Deutsche Bank, told a news conference that a deal was potentially "very close".

"Everyone wants a lasting solution for Eurotunnel," Mattei said.

Jean-Pierre Mattei, Arco's chairman, said yesterday that a deal was "very close" and could be reached before August 2, when the Paris commercial court will rule on Eurotunnel's application for protection from its creditors.

"Everyone wants a lasting solution," he said.

Jean-Pierre Mattei, president of bondholders group Arco, whose members hold one-third of the company"s debt, told Le Figaro newspaper that he was in talks with several executives who could take over as CEO, "including the director of a CAC-40 company."
