Michael MathewsExecutive Chef
Chef Mathews has been with Bentwater Yacht and Country Club for over two years.As the Executive Chef, he creates the menus and is responsible for preparing the many premier dishes members have come to expect.Chef Mathews feels the time he spent alongside a Certified Master Chef and his mentor, contributed to his passion for the culinary arts in his profession.This passion is reflected in his cooking and his artistic flair in plate presentation.
At Bentwater, Chef Mathews also supervises, organizes, and trains a staff of 20.His career has included a position at the Houston Country Club where he successfully fulfilled the requirements of all of the departments in the kitchen, from Banquets, to A la Carte, as well as Purchasing and Catering.
In 1998, Chef Mathews took a leave of absence to spend a year working as the Executive Chef at Mingalones Italian Bar and Grill in the Bayou Place complex in downtown Houston.His culinary competition achievements include: Gold and Silver at the Cincinnati Culinary Classic in 1996.In 1999 he was awarded the Silver medal at the Sysco Food Show in Houston.In 2002 he received the Gold medal at the American Red Cross Culinary Challenge in Shreveport, Louisiana.And as recently as 2003, Chef Mathews was the Silver medal winner at the prestigious Ben E. Keith Food show in Conroe.
Chef Mathews also donates his culinary expertise to charity events including End Hunger Network of Houston, Boys and Girls Club of America (Houston) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Houston, Montgomery High School.
