Michael from Oak Leaf had a post today about broken windows that triggered something in my noggin.
...
Michael Mathews was the obvious choice, mainly because he's been my go-to guy for several years now.
He was pumped at the chance, but after praying about it he felt the timing wasn't right, and we support him on that.
...
If you missed it, last night we ordained Michael Mathews into the ministry.
He's now "official" (not that he wasn't before).
And I explained this during the service, but I'll repeat it for those of you who couldn't come: Ordination is legal.
It confers upon him certain rights and responsibilities from the state.
It's ceremonial.
It's a time when we, as his church, confirm that we have seen evidence of his call into the ministry.
And it's spiritual.
We didn't call Michael into the ministry last night - God did before he was born.
Just like Jeremiah and Paul before him.
It was an awesome spiritual time of encouraging Michael together.
But the cool thing was that I was also very encouraged by what I saw.
I thought I'd share some highlights...
The council.
The Trustees and I met along with Charles Harkala before the service to encourage and advise Michael on his future in the ministry.
...
It was cool to listen to the Trustees as one by one they shared stories of how Michael had challenged and encouraged them over the last few years.
...
And the rest of the time was given to the people, to let them encourage and support Michael.
...
Michael Mathews has continually impressed me over my 5+ years at RPC, but I've never been more impressed than I was last night.
He's a class act.
He's a great leader.
And like I shared, he's been behind A LOT of the vision and changes that we've made over the years.
I'll never forget walking out of NPCC with Michael 3-1/2 years ago and saying "We can't do this", while he replied over and over "Yes, we can Timm.
And we should.
