    Dr. Matheson is Professor & Chief, Division of Sports Medicine, at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in the Stanford University School of Medicine.He is also the Director of the Sports Medicine Program, and Head Team Physician in the Department of Athletics at Stanford.

    Dr. Matheson graduated in Medicine from the University of Calgary where he also completed formal residency training in Family Medicine.He obtained his Master's and Doctoral degrees and completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and then joined its faculty.In 1994, he accepted the position of Director of Sports Medicine at Stanford University.Throughout his career, Dr. Matheson has been active in patient care, teaching, and research.At Stanford, he teaches two undergraduate courses in Human Biology, directs development of the sports medicine program for the School of Medicine, interviews medical school applicants, and serves on a number of committees including the Medical School Senate and the Executive Committee for the Program in Human Biology.Dr. Matheson founded the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine and is currently the Editor of The Physician and Sportsmedicine.He is past-president of the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine.He lectures nationally and internationally and has worked as a Team Physician in the Olympic Games and National Hockey League.
