    Through his whole life, Dr. Mastrodonato had a passion for learning.He was a graduate of Thomas Aquinas High School and the University of Toronto and a graduate cum laude of Upstate Medical Center.Dr. Mastrodonato received many honors and a-wards throughout his career, including the Internal Medicine Fellowship and Alpha Omega Alpha, both in 1961, and the Chairman's Award of the Department of Psychiatry at Albany Medical College in 1980.He served appointments as diplomat of the National Board of Examiners, president of the Capital District branch of the American Psychiatric Association, fellow of the American Board of Psychiatry for Neurology and psychiatric consultant for the Saratoga County Transitional Services Board, and was recently named a distinguished life fellow of the APA.

    Dr. Mastrodonato had a long and distinguished career in psychiatry.He was chief medical officer and medical director of adult and inpatient services at Four Winds Hospital in Saratoga Springs, director of forensic psychiatry at Albany Medical College and chief medical officer at the Capital District Psychiatric Hospital, where he also served as director of the Psychiatric Residency Training Program and director of education and training.

    Dr. Mastrodonato also re-ceived myriad professional and special appointments over his lifetime, including professor of clinical psychiatry at Albany Medical College, chair of the New York State Office of Mental Health and examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.Other contributions over his career included countless authorships to re-search publications as well as reports and papers concerning the area of mental health.

    Dr. Mastrodonato was an avid reader and sports enthusiast.He had a passion for movies and enjoyed playing chess and bridge.He loved a good debate but relished winning most of all.

    He is survived by his beloved wife, partner and friend, Elizabeth A. Riley; his beloved daughter, Cynthia A. Mastrodonato and her husband, John Bergeron; his beloved son, Richard A. Mastrodonato Jr.; his daughter, Deborah L. Mastrodonato; his beloved stepson, Gary L. Lansburg; his granddaughters, Lauren E. Bergeron and Mallory A. Rapp; and a sister, Marcella Chace and her husband, Vernon.

    He is additionally survived by a wonderful family who loved him dearly, including his mother-in-law, Emily Riley; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Von Dollen and her husband, William, and Judith Little; and brothers-in-law Michael Riley and his wife, Barb, and Peter Riley and his wife, Marie.He was especially fond of his many nieces and nephews who loved and terrorized him and ultimately filled him with pride and enchantment, including nephews Ro-bert Hayner, William Von Dollen, Peter Riley and Patrick and Sean Riley, and nieces Marilyn Van Amburgh and her husband, Dennis, Jennifer and Kristen Riley, Katie and Shannon Riley and Megan Von Dollen.Dr. Mastrodonato was also blessed with many dear friends and colleagues who are far too numerous to mention.
