LEOTI - Vigil service and rosary for Lorain S. Mastel, 73, will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal.Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating.Burial will be in Marienthal Cemetery.
Mrs. Mastel died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born Oct. 15, 1928, at Spearville, the daughter of Edward and Gertrude Nienaber Knobbe.The family moved to Chicago when she was a child, living there for about a year before moving to Marienthal.She attended Marienthal Grade School and Leoti High School.She later attended Sacred Heart Catholic College in Wichita and Emporia State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate.She then returned to Wichita County where she taught for four years.
On June 7, 1950, she married Robert F. Mastel at Marienthal.They moved to Faith, S.D., where they lived before returning to Marienthal in 1963.They moved to Leoti in 1993.
