    This weeks Faculty of the week is Dr. JoAnn Marx, Professor of English.Dr. Marx has been with Southern University since the summer of 1968.

    She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Southern University, her Master of Arts in English from Howard University, and her Ph.D from the University of Kentucky.Dr. Marx currently serves as the chairperson for the Southern University Literary Society, and also as the assistant adviser to Kuumba, the English club.

    "My love of English and my love for the students has kept me motivated throughout the years," Marx said." I feel that I am contributing to their growth and knowledge.I like the interaction from the students.

    These things make me realize that I'm not ready to retire."Dr. Marx advises students to try and learn something new everyday, as there is so much that can be contributed to one's growth.

    "She really cares about her students and she is one of the teachers who really teaches, and provides her students with excellent preparation for the writing comprehension exam," said Zakiya Ali, a freshman mass communications major from Crowley, also student to Dr. Marx.

    English professor JoAnn Marx said she thinks it is a wonderful thing the university is doing to ensure displaced students do not lose their educational opportunities.

    "I think we should do what we can to help people," Marx said.
