    Daisy Martinez, host of the new series, Viva Daisy!, on the Food Network, is offering a five-day culinary flight, enjoying flavors and techniques used in the cooking of Latin America, Italy and France. Daisy is also author of the popular cookbook Daisy Cooks! and host of the popular PBS television show of the same name.

    Daisy will walk you through basic culinary skills, knife knowledge, and kitchen sanitation. Each morning the class will work with Daisy to prepare a delicious lunch that the class will enjoy together. Afternoons will provide unstructured time for rest and relaxation, during which Daisy will be available for informal discussions and for excursions in the Light Stations boats and other activities. Evenings will include further discussions and dining with Daisy.

    Chef Daisy Martinez

    Daisy Maria Martinez was born to mainland Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York, where she lived at her grandmother's house until she was almost five years old. Between her grandmother, Valentina, and her mother, Conchita, Daisy learned that the kitchen is the happiest room in the household, filled with love, family, and delicious food. With an extended family of relatives from Central America, Spain, and other parts of the Spanish-speaking world, Daisy also grew up appreciating the diversity of Latin cuisine.

    In 1998 Daisy matriculated at the French Culinary Institute, where she won first prize for her final project, "The Passionate Palate. Shortly after graduation, Daisy worked on the set of PBS' Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen as a prep-kitchen chef and for 3 years as a private chef in New York City. In addition, Daisy managed a small catering business, The Passionate Palate, which she continues to operate.

    As the host of the very popular PBS series, Daisy Cooks!, Daisy has become a familiar face in many households, and she now hosts Viva Daisy! on the Food Network on Saturday mornings at 9:30. Daisy is a regular contributor to Every Day with Rachael Ray, Siempre Mujer, andReader's Digest's Selecciones (May 2008).

    While attending Long Island University, she met her husband, Dr. Jerry Lombardo. After marrying, Daisy dedicated herself to raising her family, for whom she often hosted festive and gatherings featuring delicious food - a tradition that she happily continues to this day.

    As a surprise birthday gift, Daisy's husband sent her to cooking school- a dream that Daisy had always wanted to pursue. In 1998 she matriculated at the French Culinary Institute, where she won first prize for her final project, "The Passionate Palate. Shortly after graduation, Daisy worked as a prep-kitchen chef on the set of PBS' Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen, a private chef in New York City, and as the owner of a small catering business, also called "The Passionate Palate".
