UPDATE: Ernie Martin has, at my prompting, posted a web page of his own. It details much of what is outlined here, including elements from the original website, but was trimmed to suit Ernie's tastes. Please visit the page of The Ernie Martin Studio Theatre that was recently posted for Ernie Martin.

"I've trained with Ernie Martin for fifteen years and more than anyone he has had the greatest influence on my acting style. Since Dianna Martin was a child I've watched her wholeheartedly absorb Ernie Martin's wisdom, insight and reflections on life and the art of acting.
    ...
It attests to the training and exposure to Ernie Martin,a protege to Lee Strasberg and Artistic Director at the Actors Studio West Coast and her mother Tony Award winner Ann Wedgeworth. Living and breathing in the world of film and theatre has definitely paid off.

More recently Dianna accepted an audition for a role which she was not evidently right for but came in with incredibly bold choices and such emotional truth that the director accepted an entirely new vision of the piece and cast her in the role.
    ...
Any success and abilities I have as an actor now are due to Dianna and her father, the great Ernie Martin.
    ...
"It was in the winter of 1983 when I was acting as the Moderator of the Playwrights and Directors Workshop at the Actors Creative Theatre in New York, a Division of the Ernie Martin Studio Theatre, established by renowned Acting Teacher and Director, Ernie Martin. It was there I first met Dianna Martin, the teenaged daughter of Ernie and his Tony Award winning wife, Ann Wedgeworth.

Instructors have included Ernie Martin, Ann Wedgeworth, Anna Pileggi (a wonderful teacher I studied with in St. Louis), Larry Singer (who, although I only studied with briefly due to my father's coming out of retirement, I felt was extremely insightful), David Robinette (as a fellow actor, student of my father's, and friend, we have sat in on each other's classes and shared valuable knowledge), and Susan Main (a Linklater instructor who is an amazing teacher).
    ...
Of all my instructors, of course the two that I received the most training from were my parents, Ernie and Ann.
    ...
From practically living in my father's theatre - where the Mint Theatre now resides (Ernie built that theatre, it was the first one in the building back in 1981/82; last time I was at the theatre to see a friend's play, I realized that they had kept my father's design and layout almost to a "T"...but just changed the paint, it seemed...it was an emotional experience)...to going on movie and tv locations with my mother as a child, to dinner parties with so many of the folks you see in the front rows of the Academy Awards - to having dinner and discussing the day with them at home and having so many of my life lessons taught to me starting out with "...so you see, Diánna...it's like in acting, how you have to have a strong objective..." - the idea of my being able to discuss and train actors comes as second nature to me because that is how I grew up.

As you can see from Ernie Martin's bio on this site, his career has been extensive. He has taught, coached, and directed actors on both coasts and in Spain - such as Sean Penn, Harvey Keitel, Lorraine Bracco, David Zayas, Calvin Levels, Lauren Hutton, Jeff Goldblum, Chaz Palminteri, the late Anne Pitoniak (original cast of 'Night Mother), Mary McDonnell, Ben Vereen, Anthony Edwards, Francis Fisher, Fermí Reixach and many, many more. He was also the Artistic Director of the Actors Studio West Coast for two years in California.
    ...
If you talk to people in the industry who were around during those times, they will tell you "Oh, of COURSE I know Ernie Martin! He was the best teacher around! Both Arthur Penn and Elia Kazan wrote letters saying that Ernie was one of the best teachers they knew of in the business.

So, the same way that many teachers will say "I am a disciple of Lee (or Stella or Sandy - OR one of THEIR disciples)" - I say that I am a disciple of Ernie Martin.
    ...
Some actors, like David Zayas, always make sure to mention that Ernie was his teacher; and for that I am grateful.

After five years hosting, directing, and producing live television and radio in St. Louis, Diánna returned to her hometown in 2000 to continue on that course and perhaps return to her love of acting...and eventually decided that her love of the arts made her want to pursue acting and directing theatre and film, as well as teaching - following in the footsteps of her parents, Tony Award-winning actress Ann Wedgeworth and acting teacher/director Ernie Martin.

I have known Ernie Martin for a number of years through his association with the Actors Studio. He has participated there as a teacher, director, judge, moderator and actor.

Recently he was included in "The New Generation of Acting Teachers" published in 1988, and I would not hesitate to say he is one of the top acting teachers in America today. His work in the areas of sensory exercises, scene study and improvisations are outstanding and make for a well-rounded craft.

I would recommend Ernie Martin as a teacher or director of theatre.

"No," shouts Ernie Martin, scratching his head vigorously in the under-heated and cold room."Baby," he says, "you must release. You must get rid of all your tensions."Then he goes behind the girl with the two plaits, the thin silk blouse, and white jeans, gives her a rub in the neck, tells her to move her legs and presses with his hand against her stomach: "Loosen up, Nastassja.
    ...
Ernest Martin doesn't care at all that the 16 year-old Nastassja was a star in Germany after having made two movies.
    ...
To Ernie, (as he is called by all of his students) all students are the same.He is a teacher at the mecca of all future stars and starlets, where now Nastassja is one of 27 students.
    ...
Ernie is still telling her everything twice."Be loose, baby, stay very loose!"And when Nastassja, with a fragile and still shy voice whispers, "Yes," Ernie smiles contentedly.
    ...
To study until the day comes when Ernie puts his arms around her shoulders and says: "Hey baby, now you are opened up.Get the hell out of here and good luck.
