Erna Elizabeth Leinweber Martin, age 98, passed away December 24, 2001, in Hondo.She was born April 5, 1903, in the home of her parents in Hondo.She worked at the Hondo National Bank for a few years and then worked as a bookkeeper and salesperson at E.R. Leinweber Co. until her retirement.Even though Erna worked fulltime and took care of her family, she found time to be active in community work.She was a 50 year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and also a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women.She was an active member of the Business & Professional Women's Club in Hondo during the World War II era.She also researched, wrote and published family history books about the Decker and Leinweber families.She was known for her beautiful sewing and handwork, however after retirement she took up painting as a new interest and her paintings became prized possessions by her family and friends.Alzheimer's disease claimed her later in life.She remained at home with her sister and caretakers until it was necessary to go to Community Care Center in Hondo where she remained until her death.
