"She specifically stated that she wanted OxyContin 40, Lortab 7.5 and Percocet 7.5," said Detective Rick Marshall of the Kingsport Police Department.

Marshall said the pharmacist, John Bonnell Jr., "filled a bag full of the items requested and handed them to her."
    ...
But he still had ahold of the bag, so it ripped and all the pills fell out on the counter," Marshall said.

Marshall believes Bonnell held onto the bag on purpose, "probably to distract her," he said.

"One of the bottles of OxyContin 40 fell on the floor, and she grabbed the OxyContin bottle, and at that point she ran toward the door," said Marshall.

But Marshall said before Tignor could get to the door with the stolen drugs, she was tackled by Khaled Kandil, a customer at the grocery store.

"I was ready to check out, and I heard the pharmacist yelling, ‘Stop her!Grab her!
    ...
Marshall said the police were glad Kandil was present and willing to step in.

"He was very brave," Marshall said."We're very thankful that he did help out and that he put himself in the jeopardy that he did to help out the citizens of Kingsport and the Kingsport Police Department."

Earlier in the afternoon, a woman matching Tignor's description was apparently foiled during another holdup attempt in Weber City.

    ...
Marshall said Tignor later confessed to both crimes.

Rick Marshall said the home invasion robbery occurred around 7 p.m. Friday when three young Hispanic males, one armed with a handgun, forced their way into a residence in the 1900 block of Vassar Avenue south of Merced.

The three suspects, in their late teens or early 20's, were wearing masks and black clothing.

The suspects reportedly tied up the 64-year-old victim and stole several weapons including shotguns and rifles of unknown value.

Marshall, supervisor of the Major Crimes Unit, said it is unknown if the suspects had a vehicle or were on foot.

In a separate incident Friday, a 16-year-old boy was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, Marshall said.

The assault reportedly took place around 6:51 p.m. when the boy and two other juveniles, whose ages are unknown, went to a residence in the 700 block of North Easy Street off East Highway 140 and confronted a 54-year-old man and his son, whose age is unknown.

An argument that turned into a fist fight ended when the 16-year-old suspect reportedly struck the victim in the back with a bottle and left.

Sheriff's deputy Kevin Blake, responding to the address after a neighbor of the victim called the department, arrested the boy, who had remained in the area after his two accomplices fled in a white car, Marshall said.
    ...
Marshall said the shooting came to light around 6 p.m., when the boy went to the Livingston police station to report he had been shot in the foot.

Rick Marshall, supervisor of the Major Crimes Unit, said Thao received multiple gunshot wounds to the body, and one bullet struck him in the head.

He said the type of weapon used and how many times the victim was hit are unknown.

Marshall said a witness riding a bicycle about 50 yards from the shooting said he heard shots, turned around and saw Thao fall to the street.

Thao was taken by air ambulance to a Modesto hospital.

Marshall said that information developed during the shooting investigation led to a search warrant being obtained for a Maple Avenue residence near where Thao was shot.

The warrant, served at 7 p.m., turned up a cache of 27 firearms that included rifles and handguns. There were no arrests, the sergeant said.

While the motive for the shooting is unknown, Marshall believes there is a connection between the shooting and the house where the weapons were found. There is no indication the shooting was gang-related, said Pazin.

Pazin said that at this time the Major Crimes Unit is following up leads and putting information together.

"I'm confident we will be focused on a suspect, or suspects, by the first of the week," Pazin said.
