"This action," said Dr. J. Joseph Marr, President of the Board, "frees up a significant amount of previously restricted funds. A small portion of these will be held as a reserve to operate the doundation. The remainder can be used to assist the medical center in the capital plans that EPMC and the foundation have discussed over the past months."

This action was possible because of a very successful year in 2002. "We entered the year in a national economic downturn and the depressed economy continued throughout the year," Dr. Marr said.
