U.S. Olympic Education Center freestyle resident athletes Helen Maroulis (55kg) and Adeline Gray (67kg) won gold medals and were crowned champions at the USA Wrestling Sr. National Championships held at the Las Vegas Convention Center Thursday April 8, 2009.

Maroulis and Gray, both high school seniors at Marquette Senior High School (MI), lead the USOEC freestyle team to a record 6 medals and earned the privilege to represent Team USA at the Sr. Pan American Championships in Peten, Guatemala April 21-26, 2009.

Maroulis and Gray gained invaluable experience 3 weeks ago in China at the Sr. World Cup.

Maroulis amassed a 3-1 record and avenged an earlier loss while Gray also wrestled 4 matches winning 2 leading up to Sr. Nationals.

Maroulis, 17 years old, won a bronze medal at last summer's Jr. World Championships at 51kg and has been wrestling well at 55kg lately; she bested 2009 World Cup team member for the 2009 Sr. National 55kg title.
Maroulis also won the 2008 World Team Trials and represented Team USA at the Sr. World Championships.
Maroulis owns victories over this year's Jr. World Champion and USA's best female grapplers.
This is the first time that 2 USOEC freestyle high school athletes have won Jr. National and Sr. National gold medals in successive years in women's freestyle.
Maroulis was a Jr. National Champion last year at 116 lbs. while Gray was a Jr. National Champion at 153 lbs.

Maroulis and Gray were also the only 2008 USA Jr. World Team members or medalists to gain championship gold medals at this year's women's senior nationals.

By winning the women's senior nationals, Maroulis and Gray automatically qualified for USA Wrestling's senior national team which means for the next 6-9 months, they will receive a monthly stipend or increased funding for training, travel, and competitions here and abroad.
