Maroul spent last summer playing for the Beatrice Bruins, and developed a fan in Bruins coach Bob Steinkamp.

Maroul, who entered the College World Series batting .229, hit .500 in the five games in Omaha (8 for 16) with two home runs and two doubles.

That didn't shock Steinkamp, who saw Maroul bat a team-high .405 in 20 games last summer with five homers and 21 RBIs.

Texas third baseman David Maroul once again is finding Rosenblatt Stadium the place to perk up his batting average.

In last year's College World Series, Maroul had what at the time was a career-high three-RBI effort in one game and a home run in another - big highlights in a season in which he hit .224.

Monday night at the CWS, Maroul boosted his current .227 average with a single and a two-run double in the fifth inning of the Longhorns' 5-0 win over Tulane.
