Maori entrepreneurs beat the world average in job-growth expectations, while Pakeha entrepreneurs score below the global norm, says Dr Alex Maritz, a Unitec member of the GEM New Zealand team, which took part in a study of 34 countries.

The first global study of high-expectation entrepreneurs found nearly 10 per cent of the world's entrepreneurs expect to create almost 75 per cent of the jobs generated by new business.

High-expectation entrepreneurs are defined as those who expect to create more than 20 jobs within the next five years.

About 12 per cent of Maori entrepreneurs expect to create 20 or more paid jobs within five years as compared to 8 per cent of Pakeha entrepreneurs, says Maritz.

Watch what you want , when you want - that's our motto , says Maritz. We endeavour to provide the consumer with optimal availability in home entertainment. And that's why we consider it vital to keep up to date with changes in technology , such as video on demand and digital downloading.

We are already innovators in digital downloading of trailers of forthcoming attractions via our website and ecommerce capabilities. However , in South Africa , we have to recognise that most of our client base do not have access to such technologies , so whilst we must and will cater for it , we must also provide exceptional standards of service at the point of purchase/rental.

An intense training period is provided , in which franchisees are taught the essence of customer orientation , product/industry knowledge , information systems , customer interaction , and practical operational aspects of running a Blockbusters Video outlet , says Maritz.

Total investment is around R330 000 , with 50 % unencumbered finance required. This will give you a turnkey operation , consisting of , but not limited to information systems , operational integrated software , ecommerce networking , and ample Video , DVD and Playstation stockholding. Not bad going - and an ideal way for someone with passion for dealing with people and a desire to succeed , to turn a love of the movies into a wealth generator.
