Father Brian Manning, pastor of St. Mary Church, Scituate, Mass., has known the bishop-designate since their seminary days, when he was a year behind him. They have remained friends over the years.
Father Manning said the bishop-designate often visits St. Mary, which was his first assignment after being ordained a priest. He said that while he was a priest, then-Father Lennon started children's choir at St. Mary and was active in ministering to sick and elderly parishioners.
"He's a dedicated, steadfast, hard working, honest priest," he said."He's extremely kind and pastoral. He's a very good, kind and gentle person."
Although, Father Manning said while being bishop should come naturally for his friend, he may have some trouble giving up his love of the Boston Red Sox.
"I think he'll carry the Red Sox in his heart," he said.
