Jackie Mancini: Awards & Juror's Statement

Jackie Mancini is a visual artist living in Richmond and currently serving as the Public Program Coordinator for the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, where she runs many of the youth and adult programs. As Program Coordinator, Jackie creates educational gallery materials for youth, gives gallery talks, and provides opportunities for students to become informed and engaged in the world of contemporary art. Working closely with the curator, Jackie has helped to shape class programming around the exhibition schedule in an effort to bring engaging, innovative artists to the Richmond area for artist residencies, teaching opportunities, and other community events.

Jackie attended the University of Mary Washington, where she received her BA in 2005 in Studio Art with a concentration in Printmaking. In 2005 she received a grant for her work on non-traditional portraiture in woodblock printmaking. She currently teaches printmaking, book arts, and drawing at Visarts. Her current body of work is focused on the reclaiming and repurposing of old children's books and illustrated dictionaries. She uses images from old texts to create artist books and glass jewelry. Jackie is a member of the Richmond Craft Mafia, a supportive community of like-minded independent artists and small business owners, dedicated to supporting and raising awareness of the independent craft community.
