"This is an important expansion of the healthcare services we provide to our community," said John Maher, CEO of St. Vincent's HealthCare. "We have always worked closely with a number of primary care doctors in Northeast Florida, but now we have a partnership with a new group of physicians who are dedicated to their patients and part of our health ministry, as well."
Maher said he expects the primary care network to continue to expand as new physicians in the community decide to become part of First Coast Primary Care.
"We've structured this partnership to allow for maximum independence for each physician's office," Maher said, "meaning that the doctors are making decisions about what happens in their own practices. At the same time, by partnering with St. Vincent's HealthCare, the physicians reap the benefits of a large healthcare ministry with, access to high quality specialists and technology and better buying power.
"The fact that St. Luke's Hospital will be part of our health ministry beginning in April of 2008 is an added benefit for our primary care physicians, who now will be able to work with two extremely high quality hospitals in different parts of Jacksonville," Maher said.
