Thomas MacCracken holds a doctorate in musicology from the University of Chicago and has studied historical woodwind and keyboard instruments at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute.

As a scholar, Mr. MacCracken has been the recipient of a fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution in support of his research on the viola da gamba.He currently serves as editor of the Journal of the American Musical Instrument Society.He resides in the Washington, DC area.
