Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre says it was sparked on Monday morning by lightning. "At this time we are calling it 10 hectares, although we are having difficulty identifying is size. It's in an area that is quite high and we are finding a low clouds on it, so we have had difficulty flying [over] the fire."

MacPherson says this fire is turning out to be a difficult one to fight, because it's 3,000 feet above sea level. She says there wasn't much precipitation on Monday, but on the bright side there is no more lightning expected in the area. More than 50 firefighters have been fighting the blaze, and 19 more will be added on Tuesday.

"Currently, there's no campfire ban, but that changes on a daily basis," said Parksville Coastal Fire Centre spokesperson Donna MacPherson."We are asking the public to report smoke - we'll likely move to extreme [fire danger rating] if it stays hot and dry."MacPherson, Parksville fire chief Doug Banks and Qualicum Beach fire chief Chris Jancowski all agree the public should use caution where fire is concerned.

Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre said an evacuation order was lifted on Monday afternoon and people living near the area are safe.  But, she said strong winds are in the forecast and that could fuel the fire.  No rain is expected for a few days.

MacPherson said 50 firefighters are working to contain the flames.

Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre says the area has been consistently dry and 51 unattended campfires have been discovered in the area since April."We're asking people to be incredibly careful when they're in the forest right now, especially with things like cigarettes."Fires in stoves and barbeques using gas, propane, or charcoal are still permitted.

With 40,000 people expected to attend the Pemberton Music Festival this weekend, MacPherson says there are concerns about the ability of B.C.
