Kevin Lusk is vice president of Faroex. He says winning ISO certification took a year of effort.
    ...
But, as Lusk explains it, there was some frustration in the early going.

"I found it quite a struggle in the beginning because one of the first things you have to do is define your policies," he said.
    ...
"It adds internal efficiencies," said Lusk."The impact on our business is huge.We are right now, for instance, a significant supplier to Motor Coach Industries. With the ISO certification, we have the opportunity of becoming a major supplier to companies with the reach of the MCIs."

Lusk says ISO certification "opens doors globally - doors that would have otherwise been closed."

Faroex, says Lusk, pursued the certification "not because we don't have good quality and good technology and good people, but because it's the only way we could create that comfort zone with our customers; that comfort zone that says we can supply, each day, every day and all day, the quality they require for their applications."

"We were driven to go the ISO route because otherwise we would have lost our competitive edge," Lusk said.
    ...
"We're very proud of our people for having achieved this because the reality is that there are companies out there that couldn't," said Lusk.

"They put it together - and it passed on the first go-round," said Church of Sunwest and the team, led by plant quality coordinator Stormy Dykes and Lusk.
    ...
"For us this is an achievement that takes us out of the backwaters of Manitoba and, coupled with the Internet and global marketing, offsets the fact that we are in Gimli," Lusk said.
    ...
Lusk says pursuing ISO certification makes sense for other companies in the Interlake.

"I believe that most companies that are selling products or services beyond their local communities can benefit," he said.
