A succession of New York's most prominent architects, including George B. Post, Henry Hardenbergh, Gilbert, Grosvenor Atterbury, Raymond Hood, Ralph Walker, Wallace Harrison, and, more recently, Ulrich Franzen, Robert A.M. Stern, Frances Halsband, Paul Byard, Walter Chatham, and Frank Lupo have served as president.

The reason for this - says Frank Lupo, President of the Architectural League - is that the possibilities provided by the computer of approaching concepts and presenting ideas in a completely new way have changed the work of architects once and for all.Lupo hopes that the new series of books will represent a series of historical snapshots".What all the projects presented in this book have in common is their rationality regarding the extent to which a particular constructional element can be explained but they all also display a poetic, paradoxical and inventive approach.
