I recently spoke with two members of the Academy Board of Governors about the importance of outcomes research -- Lynn Gerber, MD, chief of rehabilitation medicine at the National Institutes of Health, and Michael Lupinacci, MD, president of Physicians of Rehabilitation, Industrial & Spine Medicine, a private practice in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lupinacci: The CMS 75% Rule evolved in part because we do not have good outcomes research for inpatient acute rehabilitation.That decision by CMS has devastated a part of our rehabilitation industry.
