Dr. Andrew Lum was appointed president and executive medical director of Northwest Permanente, P.C., Physicians and Surgeons in May 2005.His leadership strategy for the Northwest focuses on leadership development, performance management, and career sustainability.
Prior to joining Northwest Permanente, Dr. Lum served as the associate medical director for Primary Care and Service for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group.In Colorado, Dr. Lum helped organize a unique mentoring program to develop physician leaders.Over five years, more than 40 physicians successfully completed the training.Dr. Lum was also instrumental in the implementation of Colorado's Clinical Information System, which won the 1999 Davies Award from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.Dr. Lum served as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Lum began his career with the Permanente Medical Groups in 1989.Prior to joining Colorado Permanente Medical Group in 1994, he served as the physician-in-charge of the Santa Clarita Medical Offices in Southern California Permanente Medical Group.During Dr. Lum's tenure with Kaiser Permanente, he has also provided leadership to Kaiser Permanente's Care Experience Council and Clinician-Patient Communication program.
Dr. Lum completed his undergraduate work at the University of Chicago.He then returned to his home state to earn his medical degree from the University of Hawaii.He completed his residency in Medicine at the UCLA-San Fernando Valley Program in Medicine.He is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Lum is especially proud of his volunteer work with the Salvation Army, where he serves on the board of directors.He and his wife Dayle have four children.Dr. Lum and his oldest son recently returned from a medical mission to Ecuador, where they provided health care services to an underserved community in the Andes mountains.
