ALEXANDRIA, VA â€" February 2009 â€" Allan S.U. Lum, CCM, (Certified Club Manager) and CCE (Certified Chief Executive), general manager of Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, HI, was elected Vice President of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) at its 82nd World Conference on Club Management, held in New Orleans, LA.
Lum has been serving as general manager of Waialae Country Club since 1981.He served as clubhouse manager of Waialae Country Club from 1978 to 1981.Prior to his career in club management, Lum earned a BBA in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Hawaii's Travel Industry Management School and worked in the hospitality industry.He also served a four-year term in the U.S. Air Force before obtaining an honorable discharge in 1970.
Lum joined CMAA in 1980.He has served as a National Director, as a Conference Co-Chair and as a member of many National Committees including Long-Range Planning, Audit, Budget and Finance, the 2006-2009 Conference Committees, CMI, Certification, Chapter Member Services, the Chapter of the Year and Idea Fair Committees and the International Development Task Force.
Active on the chapter level, Lum has served two terms each as President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Paradise of the Pacific Chapter.He has also served as Public Relations Chairman, Certification Chairman, Club Foundation Chairman and Student Chapter Liaison.
At Waialae Country Club, Lum has hosted the Hawaiian Open PGA TOUR event and the Sony Open PGA TOUR event.He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Hawaii.Lum has served on the Board of Directors for the Hawaii Restaurant Association and the International Food Service Executives Association and is active in many community organizations.
Lum is a member of the CMAA 25-Year Club.He has been a member of the Honor Society since 1990 and is eligible to petition for certification as a Master Club Manager (MCM).
As CMAA Vice President, Lum will continue to work with members and allied associations to develop and promote high standards of professionalism, leadership and education in club management.
