   Northwest Arkansas residents may be relying more on alternative transportation modes, but it's difficult to measure, said Henry Lukasik, assistant general manager of operations and maintenance for Ozark Regional Transit.
   
   The transit system's buses have seen average daily ridership grow from 224 in 2005 to 331 in 2006. However, Lukasik couldn't tell if that was because people were trying to drive less or if it was because of population growth.
   
   A part-time columnist with the Northwest Arkansas Times in Fayetteville, the UA's Hobson has criticized America's reliance on oil and the automobile, which he believes harms the environment.
