Tillie L. Luitjens
SIBLEY, Iowa -- Tillie Louisa Luitjens, 83, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Walton-Roste Funeral Home in Sibley, with the Rev. Paul Frederiksen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Tillie was born Nov. 19, 1918, in rural Little Rock, the daughter of William and Grytje (Geersema) Luitjens. She attended rural school near Little Rock, and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa. Tillie's zest for education continued. She earned her master's degree in school administration and began work on a doctorate at the University of South Dakota.
In the course of her lengthy educational career, she taught in Lyon and Osceola counties, Little Rock, Sibley and Orange City, Iowa. Her Sioux City career began at Crescent Park Elementary School, West Junior High School before becoming assistant principal at North Junior High School. Her dedication to education in Iowa was 43 years in length.
She enjoyed various activities and hobbies along with many friends and family activities. She belonged to Zonta International, Delta Cappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, Iowa Association of Secondary Principals and her lifetime membership in the National Education Association. Cooking and providing for others had been fulfilling for her after retiring. She spent her years after retiring in Sibley, Orange City and most recently in Sioux City to be near her brother, Richard. She had a warm heart for her extended family and kept in touch with all throughout the years.
