    Bernie Lucht is the executive producer of two CBC Radio One programs: the long-running, nightly series, Ideas, and the Sunday afternoon program of religious and spiritual exploration, Tapestry. As executive producer of Ideas, Lucht is responsible for the overall editorial and creative direction of the program. Under his leadership, Ideas has won many awards and received national and international recognition for the quality of its work. In 1998, he was awarded The John Drainie Award for Distinguished Contribution to Broadcasting by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists.     Bernie LuchtBernie Lucht has been the executive producer of Ideas since 1984.He is also the executive producer of Tapestry, the Sunday afternoon program of religious and spiritual exploration.Born and raised in Montreal, he earned a BA from Concordia University in 1966.That same year, he joined the CBC as a producer for Radio-Canada International, and in 1969 went on to produce Cross-Country Checkup.Later that year, Lucht left for West Africa to work as a CUSO volunteer teacher in rural Nigeria.He returned to Canada in 1971, starting work as a production assistant at Ideas, then rising to become the program's executive producer in 1984.Under his direction, Ideas has won many national and international awards.

    Bernie Lucht is the executive producer of CBC's Ideas and Tapestry. He also commissions and organizes the annual CBC Massey Lectures series. He has supervised several major CBC network specials, including The Gorbachev Revolution by Gwynne Dyer and From Naked Ape to Superspecies by David Suzuki. He produced the Ideas series Heretic Blood: The Spiritual Geography of Thomas Merton. Under his leadership, Ideas has won many awards and received national and international recognition for the quality of its work. Lucht is a senior fellow at Massey College in the University of Toronto. In 1998, he was awarded The John Drainie Award for Distinguished Contribution to Broadcasting by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists. His most recent book is entitled: Ideas: Brilliant Speakers Speak Their Minds.
