  Jia Lu was already an accomplished figure painter in Chinese media when she left China for Canada in 1983.But it was while working as a research assistant in the Faculty of Visual Arts at York University that Jia Lu was first exposed to Western psychological approaches to the human figure.She subsequently taught art at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario, and privately in Calgary, Alberta.Ms. Lu now lives and works in Los Angeles.
  
  Jia Lu has also worked as chief designer for the Tang Garden Museum in Tokyo, and as consulting designer for a stage production in a joint venture between Pierre Cardin and the Chinese Ministry of Textiles in Beijing.

  We stopped in at two of my favorite gallerys; the Wyland, and another one that I don't know the name of but their art is phenomenal. they cary my favorite artist, Jia Lu. If you can google her work, you'll see why. It is spectacular ( word of caution , she paints alot of half naked women), her use of light, texture and composition. Her work is breathtaking. Afterwords they surprised me, MAJORLY, by taking me to Forever Fondue. It was a blast! Lance wasn't too keen on it at first, but as soon as he started eating the salmon and the terriyaki sirloin, he was happy. he still wanted to go to the Winershnitzel afterwards.

  This portfolio of images represents work produced by Jia Lu over the last twenty years.Samples from every major period of her artistic development are included, with an emphasis on recent oil painting.Jia Lu was professionally trained as an ink painter under the tutelage of Fan Zeng, whose influence can be readily seen in her ink paintings of Chinese philosophers and poets. In an early attempt to establish her own style after moving to North America, Jia Lu experimented briefly in mixed media, but her attention soon turned to Buddhist mural art which inspired much of her later design work.In 1995 Jia Lu returned to oil painting, which she first learned from her father in childhood.Her mature style incorporates the traditional aesthetics of Chinese literati painting, Buddhist-inspired content and the Western approach to the self she discovered in her mixed media workAfter moving to California in 1997, Jia Lu worked many of her preparatory and conceptual drawings into a series of delightful ink and watercolor sketches.

  Younger sister Miao Lu, 27 years old, came a year earlier than her elder sister Jia Lu, soon to be 30, following close behind her.

  After Jia Lu graduated from high school she worked in the hospital operating room as a nurse for four years, and trained as a professional basketball player for one year, and even star in two movies.

  Outgoing elder sister Jia Lu spent a year studying advanced techniques in thin-line ink painting with well-known Asian master of figure painting Fan Zeng. Master Fan Zeng’s painting is noted for the extremely delicate line he uses to delineate the face, while using a stronger, darker line for the more impressionistic body and clothes. Jia Lu took the highest marks in the Academy for her work, and was the first student Fan Zeng ever accepted as his disciple. She is to this day still his favorite student. Among the fine line figure paintings Jia Lu will exhibit this time are poets and philosophers including Li Po, who raises his wine cup to the moon and recites, “Greet the moon with your wine/you gain the shadow of three men;†Lu Fang standing severe and solitary by a spray of plum blossoms; the famous woman poet surrounded by autumn leaves from her poem “A Cutting of Plumâ€.
