The 2006 Advocacy Day Award will be presented to both recipients by June Lowe, vice chair of HIMSS Board of Directors, on June 6 during HIMSS Advocacy Day Networking Reception.

Vice chair Lowe, who is a clinical assurance consultant for McKesson Provider Technologies in Alpharetta, Ga., has been a member of HIMSS since 1993.

When she ran for the HIMSS board of directors in 2002, Lowe pledged to promote the Society's advocacy efforts to strengthen the reputation and influence of HIMSS on national healthcare issues and policy.

"I've had the pleasure of serving as one of the board liaisons to the Advocacy and Public Policy Steering Committee, and I've witnessed firsthand the unparalleled impact HIMSS has made in less then five years," Lowe said.

Following the Capitol Hill meetings, June Lowe, vice chair of HIMSS Board of Directors, presented the 2006 Advocacy Awards to Maryland Delegate Shane Pendergrass and Dr. Carolyn Clancy, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality during the Networking Reception in the Rayburn House Office Building Foyer.

In July, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), headquartered in Chicago, named Blackford Middleton, M.D., chair and June L. Lowe vice chair of the board of directors.

Middleton is the corporate director of clinical informatics research and development, Partners HealthCare System, Boston; chair of the Center for Information Technology Leadership, Wellesley, Mass.; and assistant professor of medicine, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston.Lowe is a clinical assurance consultant for McKesson Provider Technologies, Alpharetta, Ga.
