George L Livingstone, Director of Operations for The Career Development Center, has a Diploma in Social Work and an HND in Metallurgy and has been involved in the field of Social Work and Social Care since 1971.Prior to taking up his current position he has worked as a Social Care Worker, Deputy Manager and Manager of Residential Child Care Centres, a Social Worker, Social Work Team manager, Quality Assurance Officer, Policy Officer, Trainer and Educational Development Worker, in the Local Authority, Private, and Not for Profit Sectors as well as Regional manager for CDC-Scotland.Since 1985 he has been a Trustee of a Child Protection Charity, BASPCAN (British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) having served as both Scottish and UK Chair of the Association; he was involved in the setting up of ACHE (Action on Child Exploitation) a Charity and Limited Company, and was a Director for 3 years.In its first three years of operation, ACHE successfully lobbied for the Registering of Sex Offenders and for legislation which allows tourists who commit offences against children while abroad to be prosecuted in their own country.
He is currently involved in the rebuilding of a Children's Home in Eastern Sri Lanka following the Tsunami and in promoting quality development of Child Care staff within that and another Children's Home in South Sri Lanka.
George has been involved in the music and culture of Scotland since the early 60s when he sang in his first folk group, has helped to set up and run folk clubs, folk festivals, and ran a successful Edinburgh Festival Fringe show for 3 years.While presently a non-Gaelic speaker he is committed to the development of Scottish and Highland language and culture and currently is part of a successful amateur folk band.
