ALAN LISS JOINS ANTEX BIOLOGICSAS VICE PRESIDENT, PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Gaithersburg, MD, May 23, 2001 - Antex Biologics Inc. (AMEX:ANX) today announced that Alan Liss, Ph.D. has been appointed Vice President, Product Development.He will lead the effort to advance the Company's vaccine product candidates from research to commercialization.Dr. Liss will be responsible for strengthening and coordinating the Company's resources in the areas of biologics process development, manufacturing, clinical research, quality assurance/quality control, and regulatory affairs.

Dr. Liss joins Antex with over 25 years of experience in microbiology and biopharmaceuticals, and proven expertise in systems-based product development.He received a B.S. degree in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1969, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1974.Following a successful academic and research career at the National Institutes of Health and the State University of New York, Dr. Liss held a variety of quality and technical positions in both large and small biopharmaceutical companies.Prior to joining Antex, Dr. Liss served as Senior Director of Quality Assurance at Aventis Bio-Services, and most recently served as Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control for a vaccine production facility of Wyeth Ayerst, a division of American Home Products.Dr. Liss will employ his varied experience in both quality/regulatory and research environments to create a product development group dedicated to the accelerated development of Antex's new and innovative products.

Diseases caused by the consumption of contaminated food and water are the most prevalent illnesses afflicting travelers and are serious problems for military troops deployed overseas.Enteric bacteria, including Campylobacter, Shigella and ETEC, are the leading causes of these diseases, which can include gastritis, acute diarrhea, high fever, dehydration, severe dysentery and often death.There are currently no vaccines on the market for travelers' diseases, which are responsible for more than three million deaths a year worldwide.

Other Antex executives hired this year include Kyle W. Keese as head of business development and Alan Liss as vice president of product development.
