Living in the city that never sleeps, Vida's professional and community involvement revolve around a schedule that replicates the endless excitement and sounds of the city."Rest is for the weary, sleep is for the dead," depicts Vida's mind set for all her dedication and commitment to her community. Her ability to balance family, career and community service is unparallel.
Growing up in San Francisco, Vida was exposed to the complexities of the daily operations and maintenance of multiple family owned Yet Wah restaurants at a young age.Her hospitality experience would later pay off in Las Vegas where she would consult the operations of another family venture, the Ho Ho Ho Chinese Restaurants. When Vida moved to Las Vegas, she developed an interest in the insurance industry. She first started in 1994 at Prudential Insurance and within a year she exceeded revenue goals and became the leading sales representative targeting for the local Asian community. In 1996, she joined Liberty Mutual as a Life Planner and signed key creditable contracts in the Las Vegas area such as the City of Las Vegas Employees and the Clark County Bar Association. In 1999 Vida became an entrepreneur, starting V&J Insurance, insurance agency committed to serving and educating the Asian and minority communities. In 2006, due to V&J Insurance's success, it was courted by multiple major agencies and later that year she merged with Western Risk Insurance.Today, as their Vice President, she continues to develop and execute strategic sales techniques resulting in a diverse customer account base and increased company growth.
As an active board member in the Asian Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Las Vegas Chapter, Vida's involvement has helped progress the local businesses and Asian Pacific Island American (APIA) civil rights movement.Due to Vida's wide network in the nonprofit community, she was able to connect large corporations such as MGM MIRAGE, Harrah's Entertainment and Citigroup locally and nationally to her community service events. With the ACC, she has helped develop and progress key annual events such as the Chinese New Year Community Achievement Awards Dinner, Bill Endow Golf Tournament and the Asian Business Night. For the OCA Las Vegas Chapter she has assisted in bringing two national events to Las Vegas for the first time, the OCA National Convention in 2005 and the 2007 National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Awards. In addition, her positive attitude and passion for APIA issues brings forth the young generation to be future leaders at such events.
Vida promotes and ensures that the younger generation has a voice at the table. She has been a mentor and supporter of three past and present OCA Las Vegas chapter presidents and two current executive council members on the National Board who are young professionals in the Las Vegas community.Vida has always believed that OCA Las Vegas had to be an inclusive organization, where leaders from APIA communities had an equal opportunity to be part of OCA.Never one to rest, Vida continues to establish new avenues for the local OCA and ACC students to get involved through mediums such as the Clark County Summer Business Institute.
