According to Collection Liquidators owner Allen Liffman, "Black Americana first emerged in the mid- 1980s and has steadily grown to be one of the most consistently appreciating areas of specialized collecting. In the beginning, most collectors were either historians, educators or advertising and toy collectors, and the demographic was primarily Caucasian.
"Today, as the field has received much attention and interest, the collecting demographic is pretty evenly divided between the African-American community and others," Liffman said.
"Interestingly, the most valuable and rapidly appreciating items are those with the most offensive or derogatory images and nomenclature," he added.
