Barbara Lifflander
...
Lifflander, a native of Reading, Pa. who moved to Millsboro nine years ago, is a semi-retired small business owner who wants to break up "a culture of corruption controlled by a 'good ole boy' network," in Sussex County.
"This must change if we are to preserve our precious heritage.I am that voice of change and plan to bridge the gap between Dover and the 41st," Lifflander said.
She said this takes courage and conviction and fears residents are cynical, apathetic or fearful.
"If you fail to vote then you get what you got," Lifflander said."Conflicts of interest, which cost you the Sussex County taxpayers money, with more to come."
Lifflander wants to address the need for universal comprehensive single-payer health care system with emphasis on prevention and early detection.
"All components of the medical mess -- consumers, health professionals, relevant government agencies -- must come together to create an independent system for all citizens," she said, noting Massachusetts and Vermont became frustrated with the federal attempts at universal health care and began working on their own."Delaware should follow," Lifflander said."It would attract new industries and jobs to the state as well."
She advocates transparency in government wanting to know where and how taxpayer money is being spent. She wants to make legislators more accountable to voters.
Lifflander wants to protect Social Security System from abuse and privatization.
A member of the Citizens Advisory Council for the Center of Inland Bays, Lifflander says they have been working from an outdated and ignored document -- the Comprehensive Management Plan for Sussex County. She said stronger laws and better enforcement are needed for any progress to be made.
Finally, she wants to address the issue of traffic and development in Sussex County."We have scrambled the egg that the Golden Goose laid in this beautiful area," Lifflander said.
