Mr. Jeffrey Liang

People of the Philippines (G.R. No. 125865, January 28, 2000) upheld the criminal trial of Mr. Jeffrey Liang, an Asian Development Bank (ADB) economist, despite his diplomatic immunity. Mr. Liang was criminally charged in 1994 before a Mandaluyong court for allegedly hurling invectives at his former secretary.

Since both countries are highly dependent on international trade, development of an outward trading environment is an integral part of the transition strategies to grow as market economies, said ADB Senior Trade Economist Jeffrey Liang.

"As well as joint customs control and onestop services, Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic are working toward a bilateral transit system to reduce the cost of trade passing through these countries on the way to somewhere else," says Jeffrey Liang, an ADB principal trade economist.

Mr. Jeffery Liang, Senior Economist, ADB, gave his opening remarks of behalf of the ADB.Liang noted that the workshop was timely given the significant recent events taking place in Doha and the region; namely PRC's entry into the WTO, the launch of a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, and the proliferation of free trade agreements within the region as well as in the rest of the world.
