Mr. Ken Leyva began his tenure as Residential Counselor at Eagle Hill School in the fall of 2000.
Ken was born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised across the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Ken attended Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and graduated with a BA in anthropology/sociology and was voted one of the Top 97 Seniors of the Class of 1997 at graduation.
After graduation, Ken began his teaching career in the greater Boston area teaching physical education at St. Brendan School in Dorchester and Sacred Heart School in Hyde Park.
In addition to teaching physical education, Ken was the head girls' volleyball coach and assistant basketball coach at Archbishop Williams in Braintree, MA and served as assistant coach for the volleyball programs at Endicott College in Beverly, MA and Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH.
Ken also worked with at risk boys between the ages of 9-15 at the Mayhew Program in New Hampshire.
While at the Mayhew Program, Ken was assigned a caseload of 12 boys for the summer and led his boys in activities in team building and on the Project Adventure Ropes Course.
Presently, in addition to his job as dorm counselor at Eagle Hill, Ken is assistant director of the EHS Chorale group and sings bass and tenor.
Ken is also in charge of the popular Karaoke Club on campus.
In addition, Ken has served on the EHS athletics staff as boys' basketball coach (2000-2003), boys' softball coach (2005) and girls' basketball coach (2003-present).
Ken's pastimes and hobbies include singing and karaoke, listening to the Beatles, Beach Boys and Depeche Mode, playing basketball and volleyball, reading, and watching the NY Yankees.
Ken's favorite pastime is being an "overly obsessed" fan of the Duke Men's Basketball team.
Ken and his wife, history teacher Becky Leyva, reside on the second floor of the Living and Learning Center.
