The Hispano Weekly was launched by Jackie Levya in September of 2002 in Lubbock, Texas, in an effort to bridge the diverse communities of the West Texas Region and to provide them with a voice.

From the depths of Shallowater, Texas, rose a young, determined businesswoman.Jackie Leyva was named Business Woman of the Year by the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at their 30th Anniversary Awards Banquet in March of 2004.Ms. Leyva is the publisher of the The Hispano Weekly, which she began September, 2002.She is a graduate of Shallowater High School and has compiled a strong and impressive career in sales.She is a proud mother of four children and is constantly active in the Lubbock community, helping promote new businesses and donating much of her spare time to various organizations.

Publisher Jackie Leyva was named Business Woman of the Year by the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.She opened the paper in 2002.
