We have to keep our options open," Malco senior vice president Bobby Levy said.
"We've been thinking about it for years, changing the theater, doing something different with the older theaters," Levy added."After the first of the year, we'll make our plans. . . . We may do nothing except continue as we are."
Levy declined to discuss the changes being considered, but in an application to the Memphis Alcohol Commission, some details of a possible plan were revealed.
At a recent meeting, the Alcohol Commission awarded Malco a beer permit for the Highland Quartet.
This plan appears to convert at least a portion of the theater into something resembling a sports bar.

Levy said the locally owned company still plans to operate the Quartet as a movie theater, but that a name change is being considered.
According to lease documents contained in the Alcohol Commission package, Malco renewed its lease - which expired Jan. 31, 2001 - for another five years until 2006.
A representative of Loeb Realty, which manages and owns the building, said any changes could only benefit Malco and the other tenants.
