    ATLANTA, GA --- April 26, 2004 --- Businessman and former Assistant District Attorney Kevin Levitas announced today the kick-off of his election campaign for the newly created House District 82.The new district includes communities in Briarlake, Brockett, Embry Hills, Evansdale, Henderson Mill, Heritage, Lakeside, Livesy, Northlake, Oak Grove, Pleasantdale and Tucker.

    "I am excited to bring new ideas, new leadership and a new energy to serve the citizens of this dynamic District.I will be out in the community listening to and learning from my neighbors about the issues of greatest concern to them.Then, I will work diligently to turn their words into action as an active member of the Legislature," Levitas declared.

    Kevin is an attorney and Vice President of Hill Manufacturing Company, Inc., representing the third generation in the business.Prior to that, he practiced law for seven years, including four-and-a-half years as an Assistant District Attorney for J. Tom Morgan in DeKalb County.He began his career, before entering law school, as Legislative Assistant to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.Kevin was graduated cum laude from Middlebury College in 1987 and received his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1993.

    Kevin is an active member of the community, serving on volunteer committees at his children's school and presiding as President of the Echo Ridge Recreation Club in the Oak Grove neighborhood where he lives.He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Southeast Region of the Anti-Defamation League, a ninety year-old organization dedicated to defending core American values for people of all backgrounds.Kevin also founded and served as the Chair of the Traffic Committee in the Great Lakes neighborhood in Decatur, where he led a successful campaign to reduce cut-through traffic in the area.In addition to participating in civic organizations, Kevin has been the coach of community sports teams.

    Kevin remarked: "I have always been one to provide solutions to problems, not just words, and I am highly motivated to bring help and an improved quality of life to my neighbors through active, quality leadership."

    Kevin noted that several challenges face the new district, including improving traffic conditions and increasing pedestrian safety; enhancing the quality of education through reduced class size and by early development of test-taking skills; increasing and improving green spaces; halting steep and unpredictable increases in property taxes; protecting the public from drunk drivers and from crime in their neighborhoods; and ensuring that seniors receive sufficient assistance from governmental services to allow them to remain in their own homes.

    "Given my experience with both federal and county government and my appreciation of the challenges facing both businesses and families in our community, I believe that I am uniquely qualified to represent the needs of residents throughout this great area," Levitas said.

    A native of DeKalb County, Kevin comes from a tradition of public and community service.His father Elliott served in the Georgia House of Representatives for ten years and then as a congressman from Georgia's 4th Congressional District.His mother Barbara has been an active community volunteer, especially in the area of protecting children.
