Degna has been active in the Education Task Force and contributed to conceptualize the SEED web site.She is currently on a leave of absence in her duties as board member.
Degna Levister is currently an Assistant Professor at the City University of New York School of Law where she has taught in the Economic Justice Project, the Health Law Concentration and in Lawyering Seminar.She has been a practicing public interest lawyer for thirteen years.The Economic Justice Project received the Public Interest Project Award for Excellence by the Clinical Legal Education Association in May 2004 and in 2003 the Project won the New York State Bar Association award for Best Student Group.She graduated from Brooklyn Law School, where she was an Edward B. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellow, after receiving a B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.Professor Levister is currently pursuing further graduate work in Philosophy and Education at Columbia University's Teacher's College in New York City.Before joining the faculty at the Law School, she directed the Urban Justice Center's Homelessness Outreach and Prevention Project, which provides direct civil legal representation to the poor via soup kitchen/food pantry outreach legal clinics.Prior to this she practiced law in a variety of positions at The Legal Aid Society-including its Office for the Aging, the Criminal Appeals Bureau, and the Civil Division.In addition to her legal career Professor Levister is a Registered Professional Nurse with experience in labor and delivery, pre- and post-operative surgery, research, and psychiatric care.She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and son.
