Loren Legarda Leviste from August 2001 to June 2004.He was secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) from January to March 2001 and undersecretary of the DA from April 1996 to January 2001.
He has held numerous positions in the Philippine agriculture sector, including acting administrator of the National Food Authority (2000-01); presidential assistant for agriculture (1996); deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (1984-86); director of the Bureau of Plant Industry, DA (1975-86); executive director of the National Food and Agriculture Council (1986); acting director of the Bureau of Agricultural Extension, DA (1984-85); regional director of the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Region III (1969-75); deputy executive director of the National Food and Agriculture Council (1969-75); regional farm supervisor at BPI, Region III (1967-69); plant pest control officer at BPI, Tarlac (1967) and at BPI, Zamboanga City (1962-67); and plant pest control worker at BPI, Zamboanga City (1961-62).
As an agronomist, he was a consultant for several organizations, including the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia in 2004.He was also rice production and technology specialist-FAO (1995-96); and senior specialist-Development Specialist International, Inc., Metro Manila, Philippines (1995).He also served as consultant and team manager of the Purefoods basketball team (1987-93) and head of mission of Agriventures-Gabon, Central Africa (1986).
