BEST-SELLING mystery author Robert Levinson is something of a mystery himself.The Los Angeles resident has had successful careers as a journalist, public relations executive and entertainment executive.
Now Bob has tried his hand at writing.Perhaps he's just your typical renaissance man.
Levinson began as a journalist with the Riverside Press-Enterprise, where he was a news bureau manager.
The journalist decided to move into the PR business, working for a few years before founding his own firm, Levinson Associates.His firm pioneered "independent PR support services" in the music industry.

Levinson was the first to be honored as Publicist of the Year by Billboard magazine for his international campaigns with Fleetwood Mac and other stars.
In 1982, Levinson formed Levinson Entertainment Ventures Inc.He would go on to write and produce nearly 40 comedy, musical, awards and variety specials, including the annual Soap Opera Awards.
After yet another successful career, Levinson decided he wanted another career change.This time he decided to become a novelist.
Over the years, he had written freelance articles for many publications, including West, Rolling Stone, Westways and Los Angeles magazine.
In an interview with writersbreak.com, Levinson said his debut novel, "The Elvis and Marilyn Affair," was his "practice novel."

Levinson recalled that it took him a year to find a new literary agent who loved the book, and the agent another year to find an editor who liked the novel.His first novel came out 15 months later.
"So, what's that?Something like three years?But, wonder of wonders, I had achieved my goal of all those years ago: a published novel," Levinson told Jennifer Minar, editor-in-chief of the writer's Web site.

Levinson's most recent novel, "Ask a Dead Man," follows a group of assassins hired to murder one of the world's great leaders and a young woman who must choose between her loyalty to her late husband or to her country.The woman's decision takes her from the strife-torn alleys of Northern Ireland to the streets of Pasadena, where she'd grown up among the wealthy , and where vengeance will be carried out in the shadow of the Rose Bowl.
Levinson discusses and signs his most recent work at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cormack Room at Downey City Library, 11121 Brookshire Ave., Downey.
