Originally built as the residence of a farm only blocks from City Line Avenue, a farm that included the public library's site, the only Orthodox synagogue on the Main Line has owned the property since 1956, according to Rabbi Abraham A. Levene. The interior was long ago altered to create a temple and meeting rooms, but a larger synagogue building was added to the site in the 1980s.Today, the house is used for smaller services, youth groups, and meetings.
The synagogue has successfully petitioned the Zoning Hearing Board to expand institutional use in a residential area, and the synagogue will soon submit an application to the Township for permission to demolish this structure and build a new structure where it stands.
