Warrant Officer James Levay
James was born in Hastings, Victoria and raised in nearby Lilydale.He enlisted in the RAN as an Apprentice from Melbourne in 1983.During the following 16 year period he gained extensive technical and management experience serving in a number of HMA Ships and establishments including; HMAS Perth, HMAS Brisbane (numerous postings), HMAS Anzac, HMAS Waratah, HMAS Kuttabul and HMAS Cerberus.
During the 1991 Gulf War he saw operational service in HMAS Brisbane.He later went on to be a member of HMAS Anzac's Commissioning crew as the senior weapons maintainer responsible for the maintenance and operation of all armament onboard.During this posting he was awarded a Maritime Commander's Commendation.James spent a rewarding posting as the career manager responsible for all Electronic Technicians in both the DDG and the ANZAC class ships.This was during the decommissioning of the DDGs and the concurrent commissioning of several of the ANZACs.
In 2001, James was promoted to Warrant Officer and took up the position of Facilities Manager in HMAS Harman.Subsequently, James moved back into the personnel management field when he was posted to the Directorate of Sailors' Career Management as the Officer-In-Charge of the Technical Career Management Cell.This position is charged with managing the strategic direction of the Navy's technical workforce to ensure that Navy meets its operational commitments.On completion of this posting, James was posted as the Warrant Officers' Career Manager.
James holds a Master of Business Administration degree, specialising in Human Resource Management, and a Master of Engineering Maintenance and Reliability degree.
He was selected as the RAN's fifth Warrant Officer of the Navy in November 2005 and took up his current position on 16 December 2005.
