Ledbetter makes run for District 4 SISD seat
    ...
SEGUIN - Lifelong Seguin resident Stan C. Ledbetter announced his candidacy Monday for the vacant District 4 seat on the Seguin Independent School District board of trustees.

Ledbetter, who is executive director for facilities administration at Texas Lutheran University, said his background in budgets, construction projects, financial and insurance markets and employee benefits will be a great help in serving on the SISD board of trustees.

"The academic setting at TLU is not that different from the academic setting at the school district," Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter graduated from Seguin High School and earned a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Texas A&M University. He returned to live in Seguin with his wife, Cristin, and two sons, Garrison, 5, and Graham, 2.

Ledbetter serves on the SISD Affirmative Action Committee and is involved with a program called "Grow Your Own," which encourages district students to go to college, then return to teach in Seguin. The committee is working with TLU and Texas State University in San Marcos to provide scholarships to area students who are seeking a career in teaching.

"One of my areas of interest is retaining and hiring great teachers and administration and staff," Ledbetter said."[As a district] you're only going to be as good as the teachers you have working for you."

Ledbetter said he wants to continue the work the board is doing. He said a priority is getting the word out that Seguin ISD has great schools and great students.

"I am fortunate to live and work in Seguin and am eager to lend my services to further the good work the SISD faculty, staff and board of trustees have so selflessly undertaken," Ledbetter said.

Stan Ledbetter, interim vice president of finance at Texas Lutheran University, attended Friday's evacuee luncheon to show his support for the relief effort. While at City Market, Ledbetter was approached by another volunteer who asked if TLU had an opening for a man who had experience as a maintenance worker.

"One of our full-time maintenance guys had just been activated to go to Iraq, so we had a place for him," Ledbetter said."The guy had done air conditioning work in an apartment complex in New Orleans, and with our on campus housing, there's a need for that."

The lucky fit was confirmed through a meeting with the maintenance supervisor later that afternoon, and the new employee began work Tuesday.TLU is working to secure university housing for the man, his mother and a dog.

Ledbetter said he was glad the "stars lined up just right" for the evacuee and that the university could lend a helping hand.

"The center will give students a place to have events, whether it's hot, cold or raining," said TLU's Stan Ledbetter, director of the building project.

Ledbetter said having a stage permanently set up on campus will save TLU's employees the many hours of work that have been necessary in the past to set up and remove an outdoor stage used for campus events.

"This will save huge amounts of time for our employees," Ledbetter said."It's a lot of work to set up a stage. It takes several workers four or five hours to set up a stage and all the equipment that goes with it.Now, the stage will already be there and ready to use."

Ledbetter said the university hopes the activity center will be finished in September. The new parking lot, which will be located between the library and the fitness center, will also be completed in the fall and will provide extra parking for faculty, staff, commuters and visitors to the university.

"We found that the parking over there wasn't sufficient when we had an event at the gym, like a basketball game," Ledbetter said."It was also a problem when we had other events, like graduation. We hope this parking lot will alleviate some of the parking crunch near the gym and the [Alumni Student Center.]"

Ledbetter said the university hopes the new parking lot will keep students from parking on the streets and congesting traffic.
