BRUNSWICK - Gustave O. Leclair, 88, of Brunswick, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the Maine Veteran's Home in Augusta, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Brunswick, Feb. 12, 1915, a son of Philippe and Alexina Tondreau Leclair.He attended St. John's School, graduated from Brunswick High School in 1932 and from Bowdoin College in 1936, where he majored in chemistry.
He served as a sergeant in the chemical warfare division of the Army Air Corps.
On Jan. 22, 1945, he married Alma Mercier Leclair.She died June 6, 1966.He later married Emily LaBonte Leclair on June 29, 1973.She died Nov. 25, 1993.
He worked in his father's clothing store in Brunswick in 1935 and in the mid 1940s became the manager and proprietor.He became an associate of Benoits Clothing Store in Brunswick when the family business closed.He was later employed by Bath Iron Works, where he remained until he retired.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a fourth degree and life-member of the Sekenger Council of the Knights of Columbus.He was active in civic affairs and was a past officer of the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Tondreau's Point with his family and friends, sports and was an avid fan of all Boston teams.
