"We've been covered by SCF forever," Leatherman says.

But Leatherman says, "Most of our jobs are not repetitive day in and day out. You may do the same function for a day, two days, but our people move around to different stations, so they are doing other tasks."
He adds, "We keep the tables about the same height. For some jobs, employees can sit, but most of them stand during the collating and fulfillment work."
At Epi-Hab, forklifts never are driven into the production area, and Leatherman says the two certified forklift drivers also have certification to train others.
Accidents can happen
Despite precautions, Leatherman acknowledges the shop is not injury free. "We might have an accident every now and then, because some things are just going to happen and you can't prevent it," Leatherman says. "No matter what you do, you always can have some smart people who do dumb things, just as you can have dumb people who do smart things."
But Epi-Hab has had a great safety record throughout the years. Even when it was involved in woodwork, Leatherman says the company had no serious injuries.
